European Teacher Education Network (ETEN)
The European Teacher Education Network (ETEN) was founded in 1988. Since 2018, ETEN is a nonprofit organization under Belgian law. The network serves as a platform for universities and other educational institutions with a focus on international teacher education in terms of cooperation, exchange, research and publication possibilities. Currently, there are about 60 member institutions from almost 20 European and non-European countries – among them Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg with ETEN Local Coordinator (ECO) Prof. Dr. Anatoli Rakhkochkine since 2016. Annually, ETEN organizes an international conference with a different thematic focus in the field of teacher education, which also provides an opportunity for teacher educators to enhance their international profile. A visit of the yearly ETEN conference can be financially supported by “FAU Teacher Education International”.
The next European Teacher Education Network (ETEN) Annual Conference 2021 will be held as a one-day DIGITAL Conference on April 23, 2021 in an online format due to the Covid-19 pandemic and associated restrictions. The conference is free of charge and offers a Key Note Speech, workshops on various Thematic Interest Groups (e.g. on Internationalization, Language Education, Education Technology, Urban Education). Direct access to registration, the program and further information about ETEN can be found at this link.
Member institutions of the ETEN network provide established international structures in teacher education and are therefore valuable partners in the field of international teacher education. Whereas “FAU Teacher Education International” seeks to establish further partnerships, there is already established cooperation with ETEN members such as
- Masaryk-University, Czechia
- Braga Universidade do Minho, Portugal
- Dalarna University, Sweden
- Al-Qasemi Academic College of Education, Israel
