Promoting the International Profile of Teacher Educators
In order to systematically and sustainably establish internationalization in teacher education at FAU, “FAU Teacher Education International” addresses not only students of teacher education but also lecturers in the field of teacher education. In the project, lecturers in teacher education programs at FAU are supported in the development of intercultural and international competences and thus supported in the development of their international profiles.
The measures include, for example, training of foreign language skills and knowledge of Content and Language Integrated Learning as well as language-sensitive teaching in higher education. Lecturers in the field of teacher education are also supported in developing their international profile by international experience abroad through guest lectureships at partner universities, by working with foreign guest lecturers or by intensifying cooperation with the FAU Language Center. Last but not least, lecturers in the field of teacher education are supported in the internationalization of the curriculum (e.g. through further training in the design of joint web-based courses with teacher educators from partner universities).
The international profile that lecturers in the teacher education programs at FAU develop through these measures is characterized by the fact that teacher educators can design and implement international teaching-, development-and research projects in the field of teacher education and teacher education research. In addition, lecturers in the teacher education programs can also offer their courses bilingually or in a foreign language. Last but not least, knowledge of current international discussions on teacher education and the scientific discourse on teacher professionalization (especially in relation to their subject) will be promoted.
“FAU Lehramt International” cooperates with the Center for Advanced Training in Higher Education “Fortbildungszentrum Hochschullehre (FBZHL)” which is part of the network of higher education didactic institutions of Bavarian universities. The FBZHL supports the project through the announcement, recognition and expansion of advanced training course offers for FAU lecturers in teaching degree programs.
